Angry Birds Dream Blast is a puzzle game from Rovio Entertainment Oy, the same studio behind the classic slingshot titles. It is a match-and-blast puzzler, not a physics game, so do not expect to fling birds at pigs here. It runs on Android and iOS, and it is a pure mobile game with no PC or console version on Steam, Xbox, or Switch. It first launched in late 2018 and is available on Google Play and the App Store. The install count sits in the tens of millions, so plenty of people have tried it. The download is free, and you can install it and play without paying a cent. There are in-app purchases for coins and boosters, and they range from a couple of dollars up to about twenty or more for the bigger bundles. There are also optional ads you can watch for extra rewards.
You play by tapping groups of two or more same-colored bubbles to pop them and fill a dream bubble, which then clears a bigger chunk of the board. Each level throws a goal at you, like clearing all the eggs or dropping objects to the bottom. The best part is how satisfying a big chain reaction feels when the board cascades and you hit the goal in one move. My favorite thing is the level design, honestly. It stays fresh because Rovio keeps adding new mechanics and events, and the little bird animations never get old. You can finish a level in a minute or two, so it works great for short breaks on the bus.
Compared to other match puzzle games like Candy Crush Saga or Toon Blast, this one feels lighter and less pushy with the paywalls early on. The dream bubble mechanic is what sets it apart, and it makes you think a bit differently than plain three-in-a-row matching. If you are burned out on Candy Crush and want a similar genre of the game with a friendlier vibe, this is a solid pick. It is easy to learn, the art is charming, and the puzzles do not feel unfair. Just know that later levels do get stingy with moves, like most free puzzle apps on the Google Play Store.
Features
- Dream bubble combo system 🫧 — popping matching bubbles fills a dream bubble, and releasing it clears a wide area, which rewards planning ahead instead of random tapping.
- Charming Angry Birds art 🐦 — the familiar birds and pigs show up in cute animations, and the dreamy visuals give it a soft, pleasant look that stands out from the crowded puzzle genre.
- Short, snackable levels ⏱️ — most stages take a minute or two, so you can download it, install it, and squeeze in a few rounds during a coffee break.
- Frequent live events 🎉 — Rovio runs limited-time events and challenges, which gives you a reason to come back daily, unlike some similar games that feel static after a while.
- Free with optional purchases 💸 — you can play the whole thing without spending, and the iap are for boosters and coins rather than hard level locks.
Pros
- Friendlier free experience than Candy Crush 😊 — the early and mid game rarely blocks you, so you can progress without constantly buying lives or waiting on timers.
- Satisfying chain reactions 💥 — the dream bubble and cascading pops make every move feel rewarding, and it beats the plain three-match loop of Toon Blast.
- Charming presentation 🎨 — the Angry Birds brand brings personality that generic match games lack, and the sound and animations are polished.
- Easy on your phone 📱 — the app is light, runs smoothly on older Android devices, and does not drain your battery like heavier games.
Cons
- Difficulty spikes later on 📈 — around higher levels, moves get tight and you may need boosters, which pushes you toward in-app purchases, similar to Candy Crush.
- Lives system ⏳ — you still run out of lives and wait to refill, which can be annoying when you are on a roll.
- Repetitive after a while 🔁 — the core loop stays the same, and despite new events, long sessions start to feel like the same thing over and over.
- Ads for extra rewards 📺 — optional, but the game nudges you to watch them a lot, which can interrupt the flow.
