Unpuzzle - Tap Away Puzzle is a casual puzzle game from HYPERCELL, the same studio behind a bunch of hit mobile titles. It's a pure mobile game built for android and iOS, so you won't find it on Steam, Xbox, or Switch. You grab it from the Google Play Store or the App Store, and the download is tiny, so it installs in seconds even on older phones. The game first launched around 2021, and since then it has racked up millions of installs, mostly because it's free to download and play. There are in-app ads between levels, and you can pay a few dollars to remove them or buy hint packs, usually somewhere between $2 and $10 depending on the bundle. It's not a game that pushes you to spend, though, and I never felt forced to open my wallet.

Playing Unpuzzle is dead simple. Each level drops a pile of blocks on screen, and your job is to tap and swipe them away in the right order. Some pieces slide, some are locked until others move, and you have to figure out the sequence. The best part is how satisfying it feels when a big chunk finally breaks loose. My favorite thing is the no-timer setup. You can sit there and think for as long as you want. There's no rush, no lives system nagging you, and no pressure to watch an ad just to keep going. You just tap, watch the blocks fall, and move on. That calm loop is exactly why I keep coming back after a long day.

Compared to similar games like Tap Away, Blockscape, or Woodoku, Unpuzzle feels more forgiving. Tap Away can get frustrating when you burn through moves, and Woodoku leans more on block placement than tapping. Unpuzzle gives you space to experiment, and the board is usually small enough that you can see your mistake before it happens. I also like that the levels are short. You can clear a few in a coffee break, which is more than I can say for some other puzzle apps that drag on. If you want a chill tap-away game that doesn't punish you, this one is worth the install. It's not the deepest puzzle game out there, but it does its job better than most of the clones on google play right now.

Features

  • Simple tap controls 👆: You just tap blocks to remove them, no complicated gestures or hidden menus, so anyone can pick it up in seconds.
  • Brain-teasing level order 🧠: Every level is a small logic puzzle where the sequence matters more than speed, which keeps you thinking without stressing you out.
  • No forced timers ⏳: Unlike Tap Away, where you can run out of moves fast, Unpuzzle lets you play at your own pace without a countdown breathing down your neck.
  • Tiny download size 📱: The app installs quickly on almost any android phone, and it doesn't eat up much storage, which matters if your device is already full of games.

Pros

  • Relaxing pace 😌: There are no lives or timers, so you can think through each move. Compared to Woodoku, which can feel tense when the board fills up, this one stays calm and lets you breathe.
  • Clean and readable board 👀: The blocks are easy to see, and the color coding helps you spot which pieces connect. Tap Away sometimes gets cluttered, but Unpuzzle keeps things tidy even on later levels.
  • Free to try with no paywall 🆓: The download costs nothing, and you can finish a lot of levels before ads even start to feel annoying. That is rare for a HYPERCELL puzzle game.

Cons

  • Ads show up often 😤: After a few levels the ads become more frequent. It is not as bad as some free puzzle apps, but it still breaks the flow when you are in a groove.
  • Difficulty stays flat 😴: The first hundred levels feel almost the same. Tap Away and Blockscape ramp up the challenge faster, while Unpuzzle takes a long time to throw anything truly tricky at you.
  • Limited long-term depth 🤔: Once you learn the tap order trick, most levels play out the same way. It is a great time killer, but it will not hold you for weeks like a bigger puzzle game might.
